Morocco has officially announced the opening of a new border crossing with Mauritania, named the “Amgala Crossing,” which will link the city of Smara in southern Morocco to the Bir Amrane region in northern Mauritania. This announcement comes after years of diplomatic and economic efforts by Morocco to strengthen its ties with African nations, particularly its southern neighbor, Mauritania.

The Mauritanian Ministry of Interior has formally approved the opening of this new land border crossing, reflecting enhanced bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The “Amgala Crossing” is seen as a strategic addition to Morocco’s network of border crossings, complementing the Guerguerat crossing, which plays a key role in facilitating the movement of goods and people between Morocco and Mauritania.

This new border crossing is expected to become a vital economic artery, boosting trade and facilitating transportation between Morocco and sub-Saharan African countries. It underscores Morocco’s commitment to regional economic integration and solidifies its position as a key gateway between Europe and Africa.

This achievement marks the culmination of years of dedicated work and diplomatic efforts by Morocco, aimed at strengthening relations with African nations and opening new avenues for economic and developmental cooperation.
